This film reveals the creative journey of composer Kevin Malone as he devises the 2019 musical event 'A Day In The Life', from research to composition to performance. Real life stories and voices from over 200 years of human endeavour and community life in Northern England's industrial towns are woven into three captivating musical pieces, performed by violin virtuoso Andy Long and the Orchestra of Opera North. 
The result of their combined efforts is to present these tales of celebration, tragedy and triumph over adversity to the very industrial communities these stories emerged from.

'A Day in the Life' concerto for violin and orchestra tells the hour-by-hour struggle in a typical day of 19th century indentured child worker Robert Blincoe – the real Oliver Twist – in a Northern textile mill. We also see the development of two other fascinating musical pieces: the electronic composition 'My Mill Life' and the orchestral overture 'A Peterloo Parade'.
