4 steps for Stop Motion shooting

A Stop Motion video made during the Start Motion professional training, with Margaux Humblet, Pauline Valls, Vinz Dupuy and Théo Nerestan.

Step 01 : Animatic. The animatic is a video made from the storyboard, using Toon Boom StoryboardPro. It's a very useful tool that allows to define precisely how long the shot will be, what main action will go on, what will be the cinema plan scale and what we will have to build.

Step 02 : LAV or Reference Video. Here, mine is very ruff because I used two other references : the pants walk in Wallace and Gromit The Wrong Pants, and a Gromit sigh from an ad. But still, I needed to record myself playing roles to work the interactions between characters, timings and all the micro-movements that a body does so I could give it to my puppets and make them more credible.

Step 03 : Block. The block is a very important step to test everything that needs to. Here in this block, I was paying attention with interactions between the two characters, when the move, blink, or change look directions. It was also the moment to try rigs for the first time, and to work on the pig's pants walk to be sure that he stops at the right place so the shadow will be beautiful.
Shooting this block also allowed to show to the others members of the crew, what will it looks like when it will be done and make sure it fits with what we wanted.

Step 04 : the final shot. There you can see that all the details are deeper worked, timings a little bit adjusted. Even if it's still not perfect !
