Using physical-digital storytelling and Augmented Reality to put People and Things into amazing Places.
Tamworth Castle is one of the oldest buildings in the UK, and a rare example of a Norman Castle with a roof. Working with Four Door Productions and the team from Tamworth Castle, we developed a new interactive AR trail around the Castle - bringing more than 900 years of history to life and exploring the role Tamworth and the Castle have played in the history of the UK.
We researched characters and scripted mini-scenes to dramatise events and eras from the Castle's past.
Working with Castle staff and historical reenactors, we used a new technology, volumetric film, to capture the scenes as 3D videos.
We also created 3D interactive objects from the Castle's collections, used 3D animation and spatial graphics.
We used LiDAR to record the spaces in the Castle, and the new Unity MARS system to support remote development of each of the 22 AR experiences in the trail.
An Augmented Reality app, linked to physical AR markers around the site, places these storytelling experiences into the Castle, and the experiences are brought together with a non-human narrator character, the Memory Keeper, as well as through gamification // collectibles, mapping, and other elements.
