With my brother in tow, we paid a visit to the Gyeongbokgung Palace in Northern Seoul. The structure was built in the 14th Century as home to Kings of the Joseon Dynasty. For over 500 years (half a millennia!), monarchs ruled a unified Korea from this throne. Today, the Changing of the Royal Guard is mostly symbolic and a treat to see.
Fun fact: while there is a nominal entrance fee for visitors, anyone wearing traditional Korean attire (called Hambok) is admitted free of charge.
