VIDEO DESCRIPTION:

Play, download and edit the free video Wolfgang Zilzers Character Creates Conditions Maybe to Forgive (in Hotel Berlin (1945)).

I shot this video (with my phone - of myself manually clicking through a presentation with the other hand), because (at least here) I like to incorporate limitation and accident into my logico-emotionally planned purpose: my equipment and hand shaking in the personalized, socio-historical processing of histories of harm that I try to reflect in things like watching films, postcard collecting, looking out the window and appearing as a cartoon self with her imaginary interlocutor in everyday, ethical reckonings. If you have found this, thank you for watching.

(full disclosure: the original version of this video appears on my also very quiet YouTube channel - following is its accompanying text):

The proper title is "Wolfgang Zilzer's Character Creating Conditions Maybe to Forgive a Somewhat Non-Aggressive Member of the Group He's Resisting, Which Is Explained at Length by Peter Lorre's Character Afterwards, But Not Shown Here Due to Limitations of Space." (Yes, this video is not what I usually say. It's what I wish someone would say to me (so I'll not bother you with it after this one time!)).

(references after intro):

on me: I’m a Wolfgang Zilzer fan/PhD (German/Japanese) using the Weimar of her childhood* to live to prevent harm to others and remember those harmed as more than their harm. (It’s gentler than it sounds: softly but always. You’re welcome to see).

*(from TV; my grandparents are the wartime generation.)

FAIR USE NOTE: I operate under fair use by crediting sources from which I transform visual elements to explore new contexts, educate on the possibilities of individual experience with media and complement the originals as a form of commentary. I am happy to discuss any concerns about this – please email: [email protected].

I made this list in relative despair at the forced Hollywood destiny of my favorite actor – and also that of many others who left the Third Reich for Hollywood, as they (or their friends) explain in the documentaries fragmentarily featured: "Exils: de Hitler à Hollywood" (Exiles: from Hitler to Hollywood) and "Shadows in Paradise" (it would be better to access them officially). Additionally, I add my own videos in attempts to incorporate my historical responsibility into being a fan of Wolfgang Zilzer. If I cannot do this, I do not deserve the pleasure of fandom (one could say I never can deserve it – but I must try).

Tech: smartphone video of a presentation on my laptop
