“Learning to Bear It” is a 3D animation about a lumberjack, who meets a surprise visitor during his morning tree-chopping routine. Though the situation might not be fair, he learns to show kindness and sympathy towards his unsuspecting new friend. In other words, he learns to “bear” losing something for the sake of another.

The characters were voiced by Kathleen Zoller. Sounds under Creative Commons were borrowed from artists in the following list. All other sound effects were created by Kathleen Zoller.

This animation was created with Maya Software 2018, Adobe After Effects 2019, and Audacity. It is a student-made work from the CMDC program in Washington State University, Vancouver. Taught by Brenda Grell in DTC 435, the goal of the project was to create a 1-1:30 minute animation involving conflict between two characters that is somehow resolved. The process involved storyboarding, sound recording, modeling, rigging, painting weights, animating, rendering, and video transcoding, in that order. The entire process took roughly two months to make.
