This is my first pass at a new rig for animating 2D characters in Maya. An extension of what we did previously at Nosy Crow.
Legs have stretchy IK. Body has some squash and stretch. There's a nice pseudo 3D effect on the head when you look left and right. Arms have FK and IK and you can control how they stretch/get thinner.
Ears, nose and tail are dynamically driven via the hair system.
The mouth shapes are currently driven off a slider, though I'm not totally convinced that's the right way to go!
I've done a couple of short test animation cycles and so far everything looks okay, I think.
