Sarah Taylor Silverwood works with drawing. Everything she makes is an exploration in the craft of the hand-drawn, often using drawing as a way to tell stories and collaborate with people. Her work has included publications, animations and ceramics.
The animation 'Daphne' considers the relationship between women and storytelling, telling the story of the Greek myth of Daphne and Apollo. This myth traces Apollo’s pursuit of Daphne and her transformation into a laurel tree, and has been retold over centuries in many different art forms.
The animation references motifs from cartoon history, with chase scenes (the soundtrack features a slowed down 'Road Runner' score), shapeshifting and metamorphosis.
