5. What were your creative goals with this animation?
I really wanted to evoke 2009 meme and youtube culture, which is when the video was first released and went viral. But “bad” design actually ends up being a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. It’s easy to make it bad, but not the exact kind of bad I want, and there isn’t a lot of good documentation on how to get it. And I’m not sure I did! But it was definitely an interesting project trying to get 3D word art vibes.
I also wanted to get my shortcut workflow a little stronger, which I think I did.
6. Describe your workflow. How did you approach this project?
A lot of it was actually in Word: I typed a transcription and filled it with lots of comments and annotations about exact moments that I wanted. I started storyboarding but I felt like it was a slower process for me to draw everything out than to just get my ideas on paper. I definitely see the appeal of taking more time to storyboard; I think especially for the kind of ~chaos~ I was trying to create, working a bit on the fly worked to my benefit as well.
