How can you turn an animal into an iconic image? And how far can you go in simplifying its characteristics? This is what we asked ourselves when creating the motion graphics for the Wildlife Film Festival Rotterdam (WFFR). This multi-day festival shows wildlife films and documentaries to a varied audience in a film theatre in the heart of Rotterdam. The WFFR is a refreshing and inspiring event that makes the public aware of the beauty of nature in the Netherlands and beyond, and of the importance of preserving it.

Studio de Ronners has been responsible for the festival’s visual identity and promotion since its conception in 2015. An important part of the campaign is the animation, which is used as a teaser announcing the festival (on social media) and at the beginning of every film during the festival. We created the most clear and recognisable visuals imaginable, based on the theme that the WFFR chooses for each edition. The focus is on a different animal every year. In 2017 it was the flamingo; 2018 was the year of the giraffe, and 2019 presented a deer. Our concept is adaptable to every new edition and every new animal.
