Michigan forests are a treasure. Full of life. Worth being preserved. When you visit a forest, the very air you breathe out of your lungs gives life to the trees and becomes part of their bark, their leaves, their roots. You can continue to be a part of it even after death.

MI Burial is working to bring a burial forest and preserve to West Michigan.
This meaningful, impactful alternative to conventional cemetery burial or cremation supports the permanent flourishing of native habitat. It’s less resource intensive and more environmentally-friendly. A burial forest is a cemetery in a woodland. It is both an entirely natural resting place and a vibrant memorial. The natural burial process is simple, ceremonial, and sustainable. It involves burying the body in an organic material - like a wicker or wooden coffin, or wrapped in cotton or linen. Nearly 54% of Americans are interested in natural burial (2017 survey by the National Funeral Directors Association). We are at the forefront of a growing movement.

Our goal is to be Michigan’s first certified Conservation Burial Ground, protected in perpetuity.
Our mission is to provide a natural interment option for those wishing for a beautiful legacy and a sustainable resting place.

As a nature preserve full of native plants and wildlife - we will be open to the public for enjoyment. Everyone that goes to the forest is interconnected - those that are buried there, those that come for a quiet moment to visit a loved one, families that enjoy the forest on a Sunday afternoon nature walk.

All become part of the complex ecosystem. Part of the forest. One with the trees. We are nature.
