Understanding Autoimmune disease | DNA | Syros Gene Code
Imagine being able to treat and even control diseases such as Leukemia, Cancer, Autoimmune Diseases, Cystic Fibrosis, Lupus, and even Heart disease?
These diseases up until now seem to evade modern medicine even though new drug treatments are being developed and appear successful.

Medical researchers and scientist are discovering that our DNA has more control over our cells by the use of what medical researchers call “switches” than we ever imagined. These switches in our DNA control the actions of our cells. But what if we could reprogram them? What effect would that have on our disease or future health of our unhealthy cells?

Well first and foremost, it could lead to extraordinary treatments with profound benefits for patient care.

Syros has developed a revolutionary gene control platform designed to do exactly that; control what switches turn genes on and what switches turn genes off - ultimately changing the way our body deals with disease.

To better understand what Syros has pioneered, let’s look at the big picture;

Over the past 50 years, genetic research has focused on the 2% of DNA which codes instructions for producing proteins, the molecules that do the job of keeping us alive. Hence the pharmaceutical industry has focused on mutations or errors in that code when developing new drug treatments. But with all this research and drug treatments many more diseases continue to evade medical or pharmaceutical treatments. So why haven’t we been more progressive in this research and development of drug therapies? Simply because we have only studied or looked at a small sliver of the human genome… that 2% of total DNA.

Which begs the question; why aren’t scientists looking at the other 98% of the genome for potential drug targets new breakthrough medicines? The reason is that the tools to reach the other 98% didn’t exist. But, latest scientific advances show that, in fact, portions of the 98% control the expression of genes that play critical roles in human disease.

With the current tools we can now literally reprogram the switches with the goal of ultimate health care of all patients. Syros has built the first platform that focuses on identifying malfunctions in those genomic dimmer switches, and developing medicines to control the expression of the genes responsible for causing these different diseases. Syros has already harnessed the power of its platform to build a pipeline of drug candidates in clinical studies… that control the expression of disease-driving genes with the aim of treating cancer, auto-immune diseases, and rare genetic diseases. These are solutions that are not only profound but have long lasting effects for the patients involved.
