THE TESTIMONY is based on a true story of Denisse, who is one of the first undocumented medical students in the United States. She is asked to testify as a witness at the U.S. Senate’s oversight hearing on the Trump Administration’s decision to end deferred action for childhood arrivals program, also known as DACA. She chooses not only to testify but to do it in her own terms. And in the process she risks her life in the United States and the dream of becoming a doctor, which are both enabled by DACA that is under review for renewal by the same people who she’s standing up against.
This story of courage, conviction, and fight for agency comes at a time where as a nation we are struggling to withhold these values. We live in a time of extreme individualism, where golden rule no longer seems to apply. My goal is to tell a story of courage to empower us to stand up against the powers that divide us rather than humanize and connect us.
