Dr. Daniel Potts, a Neurologist in Tuscaloosa, shares his story of living with a parent that experienced Dementia and how Caring Days, a local nonprofit, changed and inspired their family in many ways. As his father rapidly descended into Dementia, Lester’s family was amazed with his beautiful ability to paint, a new-found hobby that never existed before Lester’s time at Caring Days. Creating this art truly blossomed him, and it all began with the painting of a Hummingbird.

Through Dr. Potts’ experience, it changed the way that he looked and individuals with disabilities. He sees hope and promise, not someone that is less than or having lost anything. Being the best son and physician that he could, Dr. Potts wanted to put care into action for his dad, and in turn, for both students and the adults at Caring Days. That’s when Bringing Art to Life was created. This program connects students with adults living with Dementia and introduces them to art therapy. Lester’s story continues to inspire countless people through his story and this program.
