The Maud Powell Project

Maud Powell (1867-1920) was America’s first great master of the violin. She proved that women could be just as successful as men in all endeavors and brought classical music to areas of the Wild West that had never experienced a formal concert before. A lifelong advocate for women’s suffrage, Powell was able to vote in the first New York State Election made available to women in 1919. Learn more about this pioneer who paved the way for female musicians at meganhealymusic.com and maudpowell.org.
