To me, "The Dream" is one of my finest original compositions. After playing it live in concerts, I am often complimented. Fans say, "You really put your heart into that one." And, I do play it passionately... because the music I created touches my heart. Without words, and solely through music, "The Dream" captures the intensity, emotional struggles, the beauty I feel as an artist —even as I dream.

In this video, I tell that story, depicting it through the visual art of ballet. Growing up, I had a passion to play music. When I found a song that I liked, I'd practice it for hours so I could express that feeling again and again for my own satisfaction as well as those for whom I performed. In the art of ballet, dancers tell their story through precise, controlled movement. Ballet, like playing piano, is an art that can and will consume the true artist.

This story, set to my music, is about a girl-child who dreams of becoming Prima Ballerina —a very ambitious dream. There are but a few in the entire History of Dance. As she muses about all the exciting parts: traveling, curtain calls and bouquets of red roses... she falls asleep. In her dream, it is all too real. She faces a life of discipline with long hours of practice and learns all that it takes to finally make it to the Metropolitan. Upon awakening, she discovers that it is no dream. It is the life that she chose.

True artists live the dream. They will tell you everyday all the fun they are having, how passionately they love their art, how happy they are. But, believe-you-me, the joy of such a privileged profession, the discipline and determination can eat up your life. For that commitment you sacrifice love, family and friends —all for your art. As a teenager I would play piano 4 or 5 hours everyday. I lived it. I loved it. Often, though, I missed out on much. Sometimes you question if it was worth it. You can doubt yourself, but, in the end, you had no choice. It was who you are. I can say that I lived my life my way: I made the sacrifices, but heard the applause. I would do it all again, the exact same way if I could.

Though I am far from a Prima Ballerina on Piano, I do play my own original style. For all my faults as an artist, the music that comes from my fingertips is truly honest. There are no apologies for my rather lugubrious, arpeggiated and pompous style. It is me. I wish you could drop by and hear me live. I would play for you for hours. Unfortunately, my life is writing, touring, practicing, recording and making videos like this one. So, I made this recording "live" just for you. One take. No edits. Me. I hope you enjoy "The Dream."
