This interdisciplinary art-science project by Richard G. Mitchell and Karina Smigla-Bobinski is evolving, as a concept for an intermedia art performance in celebration of ESA's EUCLID Space Mission which launches in 2022. (thebeautyofscience.art)

THE BEAUTY OF SCIENCE is a set of pieces by composer Richard G. Mitchell, written for soprano voices, strings and various instrumental devices, based on original Latin extracts from Sir Isaac Newton’s book PRINCIPIA, submitted to the Royal Society in 1687 and finally published in English as ‘A Treatise of the System of the World’ forty years later.

The book is widely considered to be the most important work in the history of science.

‘Principia’ laid down the foundation of classical mechanics, Newton’s observations of the mechanisms of the universe, the movement of the planets around the sun, and the means by which the moon revolving around the earth causes the tides to ebb and flow.

‘The Beauty Of Science’ explores the ethereal beauty and exquisite workings of nature, opening with ‘Axiomata’ which seeks to outline Newton’s laws of motion, and is followed by movements such as 'Regulæ Philosophandi' (the rules of nature) and 'Phænomenon' (observations of terrestrial bodies).

Using the original text as the libretto, The Beauty Of Science is an interpretation conceived of as a free-standing piece, for a concert performance ...

... all of which, owe their very being to Isaac Newton's stunning work.

Composer Richard G. Mitchell is an Ivor Novello award winning composer best known for scoring movies such as "A GOOD WOMAN" (Scarlett Johansson & Helen Hunt), "TO KILL A KING" (Tim Roth, Olivia Williams & Rupert Everett),"GRAND THEFT PARSONS" (Johnny Knoxville) and for his tv work, the score for the BBC's period drama "THE TENANT OF WILDFELL HALL". richardgmitchell.co.uk
