The Angst of the String for 2 violins, percussion, electronics and video is based on deconstructed pieces of violins transformed, exploring different surfaces of vibration. This is one version of four of the ‘The Angst of the String’ this one been an ensemble, electronic and visual piece with performers Nat Grant – percussion, Alexander Hiew and Jack Cross violins, Brigid Burke live electronics and video mixing. The creation involves a microtonal sound world with a wash of constant rhythmic patterns repeated that gradually become disjointed and fragmented as the effects are changed throughout. Finishing with thick textures and extremities in the electronic score. The visuals involve pen and ink drawings done on Japanese paper and live Ipad drawings. Also in the background throughout is a series of deconstructed violins on metal and glass with strings dancing. In the foreground a constant movement of patterns and bubbles of air creates a playful intensity atmosphere.
