'Sweet Mother, I Cannot Weave' is a visual exploration of popular visual imagery used by young queer women. This video combines appropriated video and the voices of women who identify as queer, reciting the fragments of Sappho, a poetess from the island of Lesbos in Ancient Greece. Frequently in the history of the LGBT movement there has been lack of serious effort by the broader community to catalog elements of lesbian and sapphic culture. This video is my way of documenting current themes in the online culture of young queer women, whether they are lesbian, bisexual, transgender or nonbinary, this is an inclusive snapshot into the specific imagery that is popular with young sapphics now.
