This exercise is designed to improve spinal mechanics and lumbar stability. As well as adding in the shinbox sit position.
This exercise can be used to progress into more dynamic movements like the shinbox series, pistol and shrimp squat series.
Step 1: Start with feet shoulder width apart, tall spine. Press the chest tall, when ready create tension through the body by equally pulling the knees in and packing the shoulders.
Step 2: Actively flex the spine, rolling back. Aim for each segment of the spine to make contact with the floor, chin tucked.
Step 3: As you rock back you want to ensure you hold the shape with tension and control. Rock forward moving into a shinbox position as the hips make contact with the ground. Think of this movement as a natural transfer of load.
Step 4: Press shins and feet into the ground and pause prior to returning to the spinal rock.
