Starting position is prone (face down). Regression is with arms bent at the elbow with palms placed by the ribcage. Movement is initiated by contracting the muscles in the low back to pull the chest off the ground. Hands are held just off the ground in order to execute the movement exclusively with the back muscles. A progression is to extend the arms overhead and to lift both arms and legs off the ground by contracting the back muscles.
