Soul on Fire is an experimental short video that invokes expressions of flow and movement through flashbacks that lead to personal freedom. This experience of self-discovery weaves moments of cultural rupture and cultural forming within the black African diaspora through rituals, migration, and resistance. The rapid frame rates and distorted soundscape accompany choreographed motion clips that open with a spiritual death and shift between tensions that lead up to a rebirth by the end of the video.Through an imagined historicized flow of rupture and forming, one realizes home does not equate to any localized identity or culture within the diaspora. Home instead becomes a futuristic re-telling of politics, memories, and dreams.
