With nights to spare I look to sea, plot schemes to soldier on
between the sessions at my sewing table, where steady streams
of fabric have sustained a state of flow—it took a ring
of Rosies sounding calls to action, but once unboxed,
my pristine machine enlisted, our masking mission clear.
Now that summer’s here the rush has waned,
my eyes at ease to wander to the pier:
a motley troupe of dancers uncage their sway,
some are waving scarves, synchronized Salomes
to coax the dozing city back to life.
The sight of all this motion sends me to my roof,
to flourish free in tandem with my garden.
A tinge of simmered saffron scents the sky.
I thank whoever’s cooking up nearby.
