In situations such as this, it is good for referees to avoid troubles and dissent. Once the defensive free kick is given, move away from the incident. This will discourage dissent by opposition players and prevent crowding. It is a lot easier to justify stopping play for public warnings or awarding a yellow card for dissent if this still happens.
