The fourth installment of Abstr/Action + Senses iv. During a month-long residency at The Comfort Station in Logan Square, Chicago Manowski took the themes of time and space and explored them through improvisatory notions. Inspired by the Gutai artists Shiraga Kazuo and Kanayama Akira not gesturing with paint and brushes but with movement sound and light. A piece like "Electric Dress" (1956) in which performers used costume with incandescent bulbs, the performers here used the ideas of urban-camping, politicizing what has become ubiquitous with most urban centers, like Chicago.

Formal elements of "moving" and "performance" are blurred creating an unusual sense of urgency that compresses time signatures and forces light and color to counter the peformers, presence.

Completely improvisatory letting performers be performers and sounds, themselves. It's an experiment in allowing time and space to define the parameters of a piece versus the influences that rely on aesthetics.
