Sciatica can be a challenge to treat sometimes.⁣ Understanding visceral influences can be a helpful approach to identifying the cause and treatment strategy.⁣⁣

In the left leg the sciatica can be affected by the sigmoid colon, liver, and spleen via the portal vein and the sacral plexus.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
That means circulation of the vascular and lymph is key. When things are stagnant the sigmoid colon can become irritated and cause concurrent irritation to the sacral plexus.⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
To check for this relationship- utilize your SLR provocative test then glide the sigmoid colon or skin towards the belly button. If symptoms decrease than portal vein and sigmoid mobility are likely components of the sciatica.⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Treatment-⁣⁣⁣
1. Manual visceral manipulation by a trained pro if possible⁣⁣⁣
And / OR⁣⁣

1. Skin lift induction with dynamic cups- lift the skin around the sigmoid colon test the directions of movement and follow the path of least resistance⁣⁣⁣

2. And / OR Coregous ball visceral massage or “hip flexor release” with the Franklin ball both videos are on my Vimeo channel.⁣⁣⁣

3. Work around the liver and spleen or lower rib cage. Again use the cups dynamically or the coregous ball with breathing. Especially focus on the area of where the portal vein exits the liver. (Just medial to midclavicular line, find pulse and move medial to that)⁣

4. Portal vein balancing with breathing- lie on your back with knees bent. Place one hand on the liver in the area of the portal vein and place the other hand on the sigmoid colon. Direct your breath inhaling through the �� into these areas. Continue to breathe & imagine the areas beneath your hands like a water bed- as you breath imagine balancing the water on either side so they feel connected.⁣

Feel free to add in your regular sciatica treatment like deep hip rotator activation, dry needling to the piriformis, and pelvic clock exercises. ⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Also make sure they are adequately hydrated! This is very import for the colon!
