More than 7,000 people have the word ‘enablement’ in their job title. That number is expected to increase to 14,000 by the end of 2019. Forrester calls sales enablement a “core platform in the 21st century marketing and sales technology stack.” Gartner values our industry at $600m.

Why, then, are we ignored?

All of us have had to deal with the red squiggly line. We’ve all had an acquaintance say “wait… Enable-what?” No, we do not work on the set of A&E’s docuseries “Intervention.”

The problem starts with the word elites. Meriam-Webster and American Heritage—the two most prominent dictionaries in the U.S—do not consider enablement a word. And neither does Scrabble, forgoing countless number of points when we have attempted to play our job title against our aunts.

We are on a mission to change that. This is the movement to make enablement a word. This is the initiative to ensure we have the same level of respect in the office as the ‘innovation architects’ and the ‘solution consultants,’ and, God forbid, the ‘social media gurus.’
