For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am the Lord. The blood shall be a sign for you, on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you, when I strike the land of Egypt. — Exodus 12:12-13

Exodus chapter 12 is interesting. Here is the synopsis. God has told his followers who are held captive in Egypt in slavery that he is going to free them. But that there are some things that they need to do. First, each family is going to need to get an unblemished sheep or goat, a one-year old male. They are then to care for it until a certain date and they are to eat it as a family together with a few other items. God instructed them to take the blood from this animal and to brush it on the door post of their home. Then what they don’t eat they are to burn. Then after eating they are to get dressed for travel. Sandals on, walking stick in hand, and eat quickly. God called this the Passover.

Basically, you have a God-ordained quarantine in face of pending disaster. Driving the god-fearing family together. Driving them to god-fearing action. Encouraging them to prepare. Gathering the essentials. You know what God wants? He wants our salvation.

He wants us to listen to Him.
