Through animation and lighter genres, I think art of social realist leanings can more fully engage audiences, drawing in empathy and understanding with people who might otherwise be adverse to one’s socio-political intent. Here, I briefly start what I imagine to be a larger series of vignette-like shorts accounting my woes as a queer Latino. Playing with the idiom and idea that “men are such dogs” while nodding at the work of influential queer theorists such as Jack Halberstam’s exaltations of subaltern loss and isolation in The Queer Art of Failure, elevating the epic failings of recent animated characters in mainstream films to the level of queer icon, I try my hand here at failure and rejection as an art form unto itself.
