PITY: Part 3
What was a tragedy for Aristotle and what is it today? To begin to touch upon this subject we hold firmly to the conception of all arts being a mime. Creating a line of movement is equivalent to writing a line of words. In order to retrace our steps, our history, we return to the ancient conception of what a tragedy is. We will make use of the emotion pity which acts as one of the main components inducing catharsis in the audience. In the pentalogy PITY Iraqi Bodies re-devises Shakespeare’s play ‘Othello’–a play that conforms superbly with the Aristotelian criteria of a Tragedy.
PITY: Part 3 deals with the character of Emilia. Re-baptized as Imila, she confronts a contemporary restaging where the destiny(ies) of an imaginary Yazidi tribe is traced.
PREMIERE 8-9 MAY 2020 AT ATALANTE

The work of Iraqi Bodies explores the link between movement and gesture, between dance and physical theater. Their artistic practice is deeply anchored in the theory and method of Antonin Artaud, Jerzy Grotowski, Eugène Ionesco, Samuel Beckett and others. By letting the body speak of the trauma of life and the predicament of man their work wishes to transcend any human differences and instead create scenes to show a reality shared by all. A poetic reality that finds the light in the deepest darkness of life.
