Biography (50 words):
Jimmy Man Suo Zhang, an enthusiastic designer from Canada who graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Graphic Design in the year of 2017 and is currently doing his Master in Animation at London College of Communication, UAL, in London. Jimmy’s last working experience was working as a Graphic Designer for fashion brand HUGO BOSS in their Global Headquarter in Germany. During his stay at the company, he was responsible for creating short animations and gifs for different fashion topics for the company.

Director statement (max 250 words):
The key purpose of this collaboration is to connect 2D animations with 3D environment from a non-flatscreen 
perspective, creating a possibility of interactiveness between the two using VR (virtual reality) technology along with various visuals, sound, and movements. The animations are more demonstrative than actual storytelling since it 
primarily focuses on capturing people’s personal reactions to the animations in the 3D environment and their 
emotional binds between the visuals and human senses.

The making of the project splits in two parts: 2D frame-by-frame animations and 3D environment built in Unity.
Animations are rendered as a bunch of sketchy and scribbling doodles with spraypaints and graffiti elements, creating a chaotic visual collage with both static and animated artworks. The black-and-white colour scheme makes it look like line-drawings which are normally found in a sketch book. The motif of the animations is composed with various skulls, roses, and ghosts, etc., which emotionally intends to create a spooky feeling as well as a comedic experience through both visuals and sound. The inspiration behind the creation of these animations mainly comes from pop art, graffiti art, traditional Japanese print, and fashion such as the iconic Alexander McQueen robot showcased in 1999.

In conformity with the style of the animations, the environment is also rendered in a black-and-white line-drawing style, featuring random doodles floating around in the 3D space. The audiences can navigate themselves in the 
environment to explore the animations at different location points programmed by the VRs.
