Let go and softly drift through this hybrid Mandelbulb3d fractal short video.

It took a couple of days to get the right look and movement for this sci-fi environment.

7 days of 24/7 rendering of 2500 frames. While it was rendering, I would sneak a few frames out and test it up against different music tracks. This is an important step. Music helps sell the emotion you want to evoke. Once the rendering was finished, I brought the beauty shots and the zbuffer into After Effects to start compositing. I stretched time to 150% and smoothed the motion with frame blending.

When I knew how long my fractal fly through would be and I had the music track selected, I brought the music and some sound effects into Adobe Audition. I used remix to get the right length to create a new arrangement, then imported the video so I knew where to mix the sound effects at the exact right moments.

In hindsight, I should have creatively lit the fractal world inside of Mandelbulb3d, but since I didn't I needed to add volumetrics and light differently. I was tempted to use CC Lightrays, but there wasn't a lot of control. And, since it's not a true 3d environment, I ended up using a combination of overlays and Trapcode Shine. I thought about using particular or optical flares, but when I tried to do a 3d camera track it kept hanging and didn't work out.
