The Pitching Efficient Technological Entity, otherwise known as PETE, was funded with a grant provided by the US government for $20 million dollars in 1937. The project was short lived and a massive failure as numerous tests proved unsuccessful results.
As the US was thrown into WW2 after the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941, a war effort naturally became a larger priority. Funding was cut from the MLB several hours after war was declared by US congress.
