An embodied time-travelogue through Yiddishland (Belarus, Poland)

Nothing There There (Topography) is about getting swallowed by borderlands, moss, lush forest. It’s about finding the past through the body. Time travelers become previous inhabitants of the land, emerge from the land, take the land with them. Movement, sculptural materials, costume, text and sound are all at play in this ever-shifting landscape of scale, inscribed pathways, borders and languages.

There is a there there.

Nothing There There (Topography) was scheduled to premiere on June 11 & 12, 2020 at Stomping Ground LA, a culmination of a three-year research and performance process exploring the feeling state of being in a place once inhabited by a population, a culture, ancestors no longer present. Not directly about systemic near-annihilation, it wonders what remains? As borders shift, street signs change and monuments are torn down, what does the land remember of a culture - of cultures - now feeding its roots from below? Performances were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic shut-downs.
