This interactive art piece explores how our memories change over time. At the event opening, people moved through this stairwell, triggering motion-sensors that activate lights and musical notes on each floor. This constructed the “original memory” sequence, the same way the brain’s hippocampus constructs a new memory.
Over 11 weeks, people’s movement “mutated” the original light and sound sequence, the same way our memories change each time we recall them. At the end of the exhibit, the mutated “memory” sequence of lights and musical notes will be significantly different than the original.
