My project, “Movable Music,” visualises movement and sound in the physical world into the virtual world.
It does this in an attempt to show just how powerful movement is by allowing people to see the effects that their own movement has in a virtual environment – that they wouldn’t be able to see without the aid of technology.
In Unity, a c# script is attached to a voxel cube, that allows the vive locators to track a user’s hand movement while they hold the controllers. This script changes the colour of the originally transparent individual cubes (that make up the voxel cube) to neon green upon collision, and creates an almost “virtual silhouette” of the user — made up of cubes.
In addition to this, as audio enters the headsets microphone the cubes increase in size; (based on the volume of the audio) when there is no audio the cubes are of a small size, and when the volume of the audio increases they increase in size. However, this can only occur while the user is touching the cube.
