An animation of the Milwaukee Bucks logo from the 2015-16 season onward, created within Adobe After Effects as a sample project for the interview process of a Motion Graphics Animator position with the team.

Being asked to create a looping logo animation, I decided to focus on the typical starting five players of the 2020/21 season as the end product would theoretically be played in-arena before a game began to hype up the crowd. As an extension of this, I aimed to create something which I felt could easily fit in with the Bucks' current, contemporary visual identity while still incorporating elements of my own style to show how I could adapt to and evolve the brand.

The core elements of the animation remain within a 1:1 aspect ratio while the video is rendered in 16:9 in order to be used anywhere if need be.

I also created color controllers to easily change the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors of the animation to fit the uniforms the players may be wearing. Therefore there are three different videos of the animation – each in a different color scheme – and a loop of the different versions leading into one another to showcase the smooth transition between. I used the default color palette, the 2020-21 City Edition color palette, and the 2018-19 City Edition colors just because they are a personal favorite of mine. The animation can also work as a transparent MOV file and be utilized as an overlay.

The position demanded knowledge of working in 3D and thus the primary animation is the logo moving towards and away from the camera, with appropriate blur and distortion to add to that effect. Noise and color separation are also in use to create a more tactile and retro aesthetic which my work tends to follow.

Ultimately, I didn't get the position but was still left a piece of work I am immensely proud of both artistically and on a technical level.
