“Monomythos” is a two-minute-long narrated animation about the hero’s journey of an average refugee in Germany. The collage-like motion graphic aims to raise awareness of those refugees that are underestimated by German society; those who are not considered to be heroes at all. The narrated story is divided into five chapters which represent the five steps of the special world phase of a typical hero journey as resembled by American author Christopher Vogler. The story was inspired by an interview held on October 2019 with the Wiesbaden-based Somalian refugee Mahamuod Abdi and his godfather Thomas Strohalm.
