The stance and behavior of this community of young skaters can only be translated through this provocative invitation to their moment, shared and lived around the streets of Salvador. Specifically at the “Casa da Look", their head quarters, located in the heart of the favela da paciência.
Some just live there, others work, produce, celebrate or even just visit, and just like the dominating ocean view bursting through the windows, they are bound by no limits or borders, they can’t be counted or quantified and thats how they shall remain, undefined. Men and woman so confident of their predetermined freedom, of their futureless rage and perishable conscience, that the search for adventure becomes life.
The only certainty is mutual love and care. The shared moments and desire to extinguish all possibilities, be it skin to be tattooed, ways to ride a skateboard, dress or disrupt the surroundings they live in.
A perfect representation of creativity, but not the metafísical kind, the kind that manifests itself symbiotically from earth to body, a form of rush that is incomparable. It is what it is, and they know it, and with that, manifest it in full authenticity.
Some could try to compare this movement to a version of the Rentons, Sickboys, Spuds, Begbies, or any kind urban hippies. But that would be wrong, they would’t even try to define themselves in those terms. They are a contradicting paradox: carefull and rude, loving and aggressive, hospitable but hostile.
Drawn by some sort of magnetism, they stand together but separated in their own individuality, witch reveals itself in every other moment detaching and colliding making up their collective. Separation is not caused by abrasion, just like unity doesn’t come through identification. They gather up each in their own manner, trying however they can, to put out their best versions of themselves and looking for the same amongst each other. This symbiotic interaction is the purest form of provocation to the social construct we live in, and an open invitation into our future.
