This project is a place for the client to meditate and silent illumination, so the designer aims at creating an atmosphere for users to concentrate and release. In Paper for Light, the concept of oriental paper art is applied through the whole project in responding to the natural light and distant Guanyin Mountain. The combination of Shoji Gate and Washi paper greatly mediates the intensity of the light, which creates a soft atmosphere and decreases the usage of artificial light. Meanwhile, to reduce the consumption of plastic and balance the temperature and humidity of the interior, wood and timber structure became the fundamental material and construction way. In order to create the atmosphere of “emptiness and silence”, the public area was designed without partitions. Thus, the layers of the natural light deriving from the movement of Shoji Gate and the form from the concept of Origami become the space’s response to nature, and the dim light also let user capable of immersing herself deeper into the meditation.
