Incheon International Airport, the nation’s largest airport, has exhibited various artworks that illustrate Korean culture. As a part of artistic value in the airport, this project demonstrates Korean tradition through physical movement and design.
‘The Melody of Light’ made of 1992 kinetic LED objects each symbolizing strings of Gayageum, a Korean traditional instrument, interacts with Gayageum sounds. It adapts the sound’s pitch into a variety of light and motion.
‘The Patchwork’. During the Joseon Dynasty, women gathered leftover fabric to make 'Patchwork'. This art projects into space elegant Korean colors created by the patchwork moving up and down.
The Overlapping Lattice’ is a set of kinetic frames modeled after design of Korean unique door. The simple lattices of the door harmoniously slide and overlap each other. The resulting shape interprets the sculptural value of the Korean traditional door frame.
‘The Cat and the Butterfly’ is a video-based kinetic mobile façade made of 324 different mobile handheld devices that play an animation re-interpreting ‘Chaekgado’, a Korean traditional painting. It is a comprehensive illustration of Korea's current technological prowess.
