An experimental film and dance collaboration.

Choreographer Tasha Holifield explains her process:
"I am a huge fan of text and gestural movement. I took some ASL classes when I was in college and loved the expressivity of it all, it made sense to me. While I don't pull from the ASL language for my movement, I strive to put movement that reflects the essence of a word, through the sound the word makes, or the meaning, the rhythm, or even the memory of the word. For the seed of this movement I drew from the book "The Earth Speaks." It is a collection of poems by different authors meant to reflect aspects of the earth - earth magic, earth wisdom, and earth spirit. I took two poems from this book, "The Four Seasons: Japanese Haiku by Hokushi," and a poem written by Solomon Ibn-Gabirol. I also drew from a past seed phrase where I used a similar technique, but cannot remember from where it came. Once I had my seed phrases, I taught them to the dancers and asked them
to do different things to the phrase. I prefer this way of creating because I believe in the uniqueness of people and their personal movement qualities. When I give permission to change the phrase and make it their own, they get to share a part of themselves that is naturally their own. Then I threw it together, seeing moments when it naturally links up, and call it a day. When we get out of our own way, we uncover beautiful things that we had forgotten or didn't know we possessed.
