Into The Void was created throughout my final year at university for my individual project.

The game uses the Unity Engine and was coded using C#. 2D art assets, weapon, enemy and collectable 3D models, were produced by me, with additional 3D models being provided by the Asset Store.

My aim was to produce a demo for an action rpg with a psx inspired aesthetic.

The combat system was designed to be inspired by real time action games such as those from Platinum Games, combined with the idea of turn based RPG game play from the likes of Final Fantasy. I attempted to use a system in which shooting enemies gives AP that can be used to execute a variety of commands from a command menu as well as slow down time to make selecting easier.

The core idea of the fights would be that the player needed to constantly be dodging and shooting to fill the action meter so that they can buff, debuff, and unleash combos.

I also implemented an affinity system where enemies could change affinities between light, dark and neutral, and the player would need to react by changing their own affinity accordingly.

I learnt a lot from this project, particularly time management and planning skills, many coding and graphics skills, and it gave me a greater understanding of the sheer amount of work that goes into making a game.
