In Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, Family Movie Night has been a great way to bring their diverse community together. Art teacher, Kate Martinez, and attendees Fardowsa Odawa, Amy King, Alvaro Perez, and Fosiya Aden talk about how they see art uniting everybody…

Kate: "As a art teacher of Pelican Rapids Elementary, I am just so passionate about finding ways that art can merge our diverse community together, and these movie nights have been an awesome example of that. Bringing everybody that is representing of Pelican Rapids Viking together into our lobby of the fine arts and into the movie."

Fardowsa: "It is a positive thing, and it's a really good opportunity to bring kids together so, like, they can see their friends and see the different cultures."

Amy: "We really have enjoyed bringing our family to these family movie nights because it's given us a great opportunity to learn about things they've learned about in school and having so many people here from all different backgrounds, it's just been amazing."

Kate: "We have our art projects beforehand, our students working hard to show what they've created, and it represents our diverse community."

Alvaro: "I like to bring my family to the movie night because it's fun to come and see most of the artwork that the kids make and seeing different nationalities come in here and spend time together."

Fosiya: "I don't just come to bring the little the kids. They all enjoy, but I come also 'cause I enjoy it, the movies as well."

Kate: "As you can see by the languages being spoken before the movie starts as a diverse representation, culturally diverse, ethnically diverse, age, thought, every type of diversity is represented, and that's exactly what we want here in Pelican. Art does that. Art can bring everybody together and unite."
