Laura Du Vé is a Naarm/Melbourne based visual artist and photographer. Her creative work spans commercial and fine art photography. With discussions of intimacy, sensuality & the body at the helm of her work, Du Vè often looks at how queer identities intersect.

Immure is an artwork and accompanying zine that looks to discuss the intimacy of LGBTQIA+ connection between May 2020 and March 2021. Du Vé photographed lgbtqia+ couples in their bedrooms, gardens and living rooms using the facetime app, and later on in person in Melbourne once restrictions had eased.

The title of this series "Immure" is a Latin noun that means "to wall in" or "to enclose with a wall." It has extended meanings as well. The word sometimes has broader use, essentially meaning "to shut in" or "to confine."

This artwork and zine allowed Du Vé to have connection with queer community world over, during a time where there were no in person spaces for us to gain comfort, release tension, seek validation of self, and feel seen in our individual identities. A time when uncertainty was a part of the everyday norm.

Du Vé has always been fascinated by queer portraits, and through this work she allows for an ongoing exploration of queer and trans intimacy & love through image and movement.

This artwork and accompanying zine is a love letter and time capsule of 2020-2021. A reminder that when there is so much isolation in the regular world for queer and trans people, the importance of love and community is still there. Love, empathy & care, both romantic and platonic, have pushed us through this pandemic, and as it rages on in most of the world. Du Vé hopes that this series is a reminder that love and softness still exist. This series of moving images sheds light on where each of us was, is or will be.
