Εκεί που νομίζουμε πως γνωρίζουμε τα πάντα σχετικά μ’ αυτόν, κάθε φορά ανακαλύπτουμε και κάτι καινούριο, νέες πτυχές του έργου και της ζωής του, που ενσωματώνονται στο πολυσύνθετο δημιουργικό σύμπαν του Ettore Sottsass. Τα ανέμελα παιδικά του χρόνια στα βουνά, τα ταξίδια του στην Αμερική, όπου ανακάλυψε τη βιομηχανική κουλτούρα και τους ποιητές της γενιάς μπιτ, η σημασία του χρώματος, η περίοδος Olivetti, τα αναρίθμητα μέσα δημιουργικής του έκφρασης, όπως η κεραμική, το γυαλί, το ντιζάιν και η αρχιτεκτονική. Οι πληροφορίες δίνονται από τον ίδιο τον Sottsass μέσα από τρεις συνεντεύξεις μαγνητοσκοπημένες σε διαφορετικές χρονικές στιγμές. Το 2017 συμπληρώθηκε ένας αιώνας από τη γέννησή του, και η ταινία αποτελείται από αναγνώσεις των έργων του από νέους ηθοποιούς του Piccolo Teatro του Μιλάνου, καθώς και από σπάνιες συνεντεύξεις ατόμων που τον γνώριζαν καλά και μπορούν, έτσι, να μεταφέρουν μια αληθινή και ανεπεξέργαστη εικόνα του: η Barbara Radice που έζησε 30 χρόνια μαζί του και πολλές περιπέτειες, ο σπουδαίος Ιάπωνας αρχιτέκτονας Arata Isozaki με τον οποίο γνωρίστηκε κατά τη ριζοσπαστική του περίοδο, οι Michele De Lucchi, Nathalie du Pasquier και George Sowden, μέλη της ομάδας του κινήματος Memphis και συνεργάτες του στον πειραματισμό. Και τελευταίοι, αλλά εξίσου σημαντικοί, η Johanna Grawunder, αρχικά μαθητευόμενή του και στη συνέχεια βοηθός και συνεργάτης του στο στούντιο Sottsass Associati, και ο Christoph Radl, γραφίστας και καλλιτεχνικός διευθυντής με τον οποίο διασταυρώθηκαν οι δρόμοι τους στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του ’80.

We always think we know everything there is to know about him, but we find out something new every time, and new strands become incorporated into the complex creative universe that was Ettore Sottsass. His carefree childhood in the mountains, his travels to America, where he discovered industrial culture and the Beat Generation poets, the value of colour, the Olivetti years, his innumerable creative outlets, which included ceramic, glass, design and architecture. The information is supplied by Sottsass himself in three interviews, recorded at different times. The year 2017 marked the centenary of his birth, and the film consists of readings of his works by young actors from the Piccolo Teatro in Milan, along with precious interviews with people who knew him well and can thus provide a true and unedited image of him: Barbara Radice, who shared with him 30 years and many adventures, Arata Isozaki, the great Japanese architect he met during his radical period, his partners in experimentation and the Memphis movement Michele De Lucchi, Nathalie du Pasquier, and George Sowden. Last but not least, Johanna Grawunder, first his disciple, and then his assistant and collaborator at the Sottsass Associati studio, and Christoph Radl, graphic artist and art director with whom he crossed paths towards the end of the Eighties.
