Awaking the day after their joyous and colourful celebration for their birthday, the aftermath and destruction from the party comes with the realisation that they’ll never relive those memories again.

I can cry if I want to is a surrealist experimental film, about a young girl the day after her birthday party. While being surrounded by the aftermath of the celebration within her home, she reminisces on the events from the night before. A time of pure fun where she felt the ultimate highs and enjoyment from being in the company of friends and family and celebrated as a person. To the next day, a quick and drastic change to now being alone and dealing with the mess from the event. Encompassing this idea of ‘post party depression’, they way life suddenly goes back to normality once the pure bliss of happiness has faded away.  I used the technique of overlay to juxtapose between the movement of the ‘party shots’ to the stillness of the day after, to convey this change from getting caught up in moments of exaggerated happiness to then reality of the world. This was also presented through the use of an artificial filter with higher saturation, superimposed with shots of the 'day after', which uses lessened saturation and brighter lighting, in contrast communicating feeling drained and empty.
