Hysterical Women is an interactive video installation featuring women in different states of hysteria; rolling, writhing, twisting, and turning. Though the women appear naked, prosthetics mask the overtly sexual nature of nipples, mouths, buttocks and genitalia. The concealment of body parts serves to make the women appear more helpless, voiceless, Barbie-like and unreal in their realness. This installation may bring to mind the depictions of women in advertising, simultaneously exposed and repressed.
A console of 16 interactive buttons allows visitors to activate audio and video of 13 women in different states of hysteria. 3 of the buttons splash the room with a virtual flood of red liquid, (blood), blue liquid, (water), and an engulfing spiraling red whirlpool.
This is currently on display in the 50ft x 27ft long South Gallery of The Museum of Art and History, MOAH Lancaster California.

The work addresses the antiquated and misogynistic portrayal of women. From unrealistic body expectations to sexualized objectification, women have been subjected to this sexist archetype for decades. Hysterical Women legitimizes this reality and translates it into a visceral statement. Clover teeters into the uncanny with the presentation of the nude but with the omission of sexuality. The surreal distorted movement of these almost plastic figures, echo the perception and manipulation of the female form. With the work, this skewed portrayal of women is visualized and put on full display, providing a raw look into an unwelcome reality.
