Hello movers, I wanted to do something different for this newsletter and talk to you on video.

How have you been? What a loaded question right?

It’s been a little tough. I feel it, I’m sure you feel it.
And, I feel like a lot of us have had some especially hard feelings around our body image lately. Me included. Maybe that’s a shock to hear, that someone who advocates for body liberation and is anti fat-phobic, and represents a body like mine in fitness spaces to admit that I’ve been having hard body feelings, but I have been.

What I’ve discovered throughout my personal journey with body liberation, is that how you are feeling in your physical body, is very rarely actually about how your body looks and is a lot more about how you are feeling inside.

If I’m going to be honest, I’m wearing all the same size clothing I was last year. I don’t own a scale, but I think if I stepped on one now, the reflection wouldn’t be too different either. I do know, from the feelings in my body, and the back pain I’ve had off and on for almost a whole year, that things feel different.

We need to look at how much our lives have truly changed. We must know that even though it may not feel ok, and you may be working on feeling better in your body because you are not feeling comfortable, it is not your fault, or your moral failing. So much about our lives have changed, and our bodies are so much more than the product of how we move and how we eat. Stress, environmental factors, emotion and mental health all have so much to do with how our body reacts.

Give yourself some grace, speak softly to yourself.

I’m not feeling so comfortable in my body these days, you may not be either.
But remind yourself how much you’ve been through.

When I’m teaching online, I’m often jumping around in my basement, cameras on, and then immediately after I’m crouching over my computer, uploading videos and all the things. When I would teach a class (in person) before, I would do less of the actual class, but after would spend time walking about the studio, chatting with people, putting away props, walking to the coffee shop… all of that accumulated movement that we are missing these days, really adds up.

I’m here to connect, get a little vulnerable and to let you know that the journey to body liberation is not linear. Just like everything in life, it dips up and down, and there are nuances, and if you don’t feel comfortable in your body, that’s ok.
BUT know that, your body WILL change, and your body changing is natural, and that is not a failing on your part.
