Short making of Eucalyptus and Primrose growth setups for HydraSense commercial. Done in SideFX Houdini, rendered with V-Ray for Houdini.
Whole setup was driven by splines and animating age attribute over the spline length in time. Change in age, propagated downstream, controlled everything. Widths, lengths, branching, leafs unrolling, flowers opening, emitting flying stuff, even physical properties like stiffness and damping. With age, flowers and leafs were getting heavier, bending more, flexing more, shaders being mixed etc.
With procedural power of Houdini, making it grow on text was as easy as selecting different spline in the first node.
